Ho-Fiave (V/R), Sept. 07, GNA – Reverend Alfred Agbetsiafa, Fiave District Pastor of The Church of Pentecost, has urged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and committed to God’s will, especially during difficult moments in life.
He said the journey to Golgatha, which Jesus Christ undertook despite intense suffering, demonstrated the importance of perseverance, obedience, and faith in fulfilling God’s purpose.
Rev. Agbetsiafa made the call when he delivered a Sunday sermon on the theme: “The Way to Golgotha” at the Fiave Central Assembly of The Church of Pentecost in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.
He explained that Golgatha, meaning “the place of the skull,” represented the difficult path Jesus endured for the salvation of humanity.
Drawing lessons from Matthew 26:39–42, he said Jesus, while praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, submitted Himself to God’s will, saying, “Not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
He urged Christians not to base their prayers and lives solely on their personal desires but to seek and submit to the will of God.
Rev Agbetsiafa encouraged believers not to abandon their faith when confronted with trials, saying God loved them and had a purpose for their journey.
Referring to Romans 8:18 and 35–39, he said present suffering could not be compared with the glory that would be revealed in believers.
He likened the burdens Christians carried to gold, explaining that although a load of stones might feel heavy, a load of gold could be endured because of its value.
He said, similarly, the difficulties Christians encountered in their walk with God might be painful but could eventually produce glory and victory.
Using Luke 23:26–31, Rev. Agbetsiafa said Jesus continued His journey to Golgatha despite the suffering He experienced and urged Christians to keep moving forward when faced with difficulties.
“When you fall, rise again,” he said, encouraging believers not to allow failures, accusations, trials, or temptations to prevent them from pursuing God’s purpose for their lives.
He cited John 6:53 to emphasise the importance of accepting Christ and His Word, saying true life was found through Him.
Rev. Agbetsiafa said Jesus’ declaration, “It is finished,” in John 19:28–30, represented the completion of His mission and ultimate victory over suffering.
He encouraged Christians to remain hopeful that, just as Christ overcame His trials, they would also overcome challenges in their marriages, businesses, careers, ministries, and other areas of life.
He said the road to Golgatha might be difficult, but it led to victory and glory and urged believers to hold firmly to God despite the challenges they encountered.
