Tsito, Sept. 30, GNA – Some disappointed Ghanaian football fans in Tsito in the Ho West District have called for changes in the administration of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the Black Stars’ 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Black Stars surrendered a two-goal advantage to lose the Group C encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, leaving Ghana without a point from its opening two qualifying matches.
Ghana had taken a 2-0 lead through goals from Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan before the Gambia mounted a comeback to level the score before halftime and eventually secure a 4-2 victory.
Following the defeat, some fans who spoke Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed frustration with the management of Ghanaian football and called for the dissolution of the GFA, while others questioned the team’s performance and preparation.
One fan, identified as Seyram Awusi Vulley, called on President John Dramani Mahama to consider dissolving the GFA, warning that failure to address the concerns could influence political choices ahead of the 2028 general election.
The fan also referred to possible support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a former Vice President and New Patriotic Party presidential candidate, as part of the political reaction to the football crisis.
Another fan questioned the absence of captain Jordan Ayew, who missed the opening AFCON qualifiers through injury. Ayew had been included in the squad before an injury ruled him out of the matches.
“No Jordan Ayew and we lost by four goals. Who do we blame now?” the fan asked, arguing that the Gambia would not have beaten Ghana had Ayew been available.
The defeat followed Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Côte d’Ivoire in the opening Group C fixture, leaving the Black Stars without a point after two matches.
The Gambia, meanwhile, moved to six points after recording victories over Somalia and Ghana in their opening two matches, while Ghana now faces a difficult task in its remaining Group C fixtures.
The result has intensified public discussion and debate about the management of the national team, player selection, technical direction and the broader administration of Ghanaian football.
