Bornikope, Sept. 30, GNA -The Ada West District Assembly has handed over completed educational and sanitation facilities at Bornikope and Koluedor as part of efforts to improve basic infrastructure in the communities.
At Bornikope, the Assembly handed over a three-unit classroom JHS block with an office and store for the D/A Basic School.
At Koluedor, the Assembly handed over a newly constructed 10-seater KVIP toilet facility for the Koluedor Basic School, as well as a renovated 10-seater water-closet toilet facility.
Mr Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F. Mills-Nkrumah, the Ada West District Chief Executive, said the projects formed part of an estimated GH¢4.3 million investment in development projects funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) since September 2025.
Mr. Mills-Nkrumah said the Assembly had prioritised education and sanitation infrastructure because of their direct impact on the welfare and development of residents.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the Koluedor sanitation project followed his observation of pupils defecating in the open.
He said he stopped to find out what was happening and realised that the toilet facility serving the school was damaged and required attention.
“The toilet facility for the Koluedor residents was in bad condition, and so we thought that if we did not renovate it, the people would come to the school, so we renovated it,” he said.
He said the intervention was intended to improve sanitation in the community and prevent the school facility from being overburdened.
Mr. Mills-Nkrumah stated that the projects covered communities including Koluedor, Sege, Lolonya, Luhour, Aditcherekope and Bornikope.
He said the assembly would continue to pursue additional development projects in the district, including classrooms, teachers’ bungalows, health facilities and a 24-hour market at Sege.
The projects formed part of eight development projects completed by the assembly under phase one of its development programme.
Ms. Rita Kassalowoe, the Headmistress of Koluedor RC Primary, thanked the assembly for the intervention, describing it as timely.
She pledged the school’s commitment to ensuring that the facilities were properly managed and maintained to serve pupils for a long time.
The projects were formally handed over to the respective beneficiary communities following joint inspections conducted by the assembly, contractors, Assembly Members and community leaders.
