Aflao (V/R), Sept. 23, GNA – The Diamond Cement-Gakli Road, which has not seen a major facelift for more than a decade, is expected to receive an upgrade soon, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Ketu South MP, has assured constituents.
The deplorable condition of the road has caused dissatisfaction among residents and other road users who depend on it, with concerns about its prolonged state and the challenges it presents to communities along the route.
Madam Gomashie gave the assurance when she engaged constituents on development projects in the constituency during the presentation of 2,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers and streetlights to the three traditional areas in the Ketu South Municipality.
She said contractors had recently visited the area to undertake pegging as part of preparatory activities towards the commencement of work on the road.
The Diamond Cement-Gakli Road serves communities within the constituency and provides an important link for residents and other road users.
The MP said the road was among several development projects being pursued in the constituency and reaffirmed her commitment to working with government agencies and relevant stakeholders to advance development initiatives.
She also briefed constituents on other ongoing and planned projects, including the sea defence project, the Ho-Aflao Road and the 24-hour market initiative at Glidzi in the Klikor Traditional Area.
On the Aflao Modern Market, Madam Gomashie said the project had stalled over land acquisition issues but that the President had issued a directive to pave the way for its commencement.
She said she was working with the Volta Regional Minister to address the matter and facilitate the start of work.
Madam Gomashie therefore urged constituents to disregard assertions that the development focus was only on the 24-hour market currently being undertaken at Glidzi.
The MP donated 2,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers across the constituency to support agricultural production and improve their livelihoods.
In addition, she presented 20 streetlights each to the three traditional areas to improve visibility at night and contribute to security in the communities.
Madam Gomashie said the various interventions formed part of efforts to improve economic opportunities and living conditions for the people of Ketu South.
