Accra, Sept. 29, GNA – The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has cautioned the public against new trends being used by perpetrators to facilitate job recruitment scams.
In a public alert issued on September 25, 2026, the CSA said its findings indicated that perpetrators were sending unsolicited messages via SMS and social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram, purporting to offer employment opportunities.
It said some cybercriminals operating sophisticated schemes also cloned the websites of legitimate government agencies and other institutions to make fraudulent recruitment offers appear authentic.
The CSA said the cloned websites could also be used to conduct phishing attacks or harvest personal and sensitive information from unsuspecting victims.
It said some perpetrators also impersonated recruiters, senior officials or representatives of reputable institutions and advertised high-paying positions, particularly in the security sector.
The CSA said a post currently circulating online falsely claimed to offer recruitment for a foreign security and drone operation allegedly linked to the Ghana-Burkina Faso border area.
Other recent cases involved fraudulent recruitment messages claiming that the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) was charging members of the public fees to secure employment, the CSA said.
It urged the public to be wary of high-paying recruitment offers online, particularly those involving security, military or specialised technical roles.
It also advised the public to exercise caution when responding to unsolicited job offers and verify the source and authenticity of such offers before sharing personal information.
“Do not share personal information, identification documents or financial details with unverified recruiters,” it said.
“Avoid amplifying unverified security-related claims that may create unnecessary fear or confusion.”
The CSA further urged the public to be wary of poor grammar, spelling mistakes and unprofessional communication in job advertisements.
It encouraged the public to report suspicious online activity or suspected cyber incidents through the appropriate channels, including the CSA and the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service.
The Authority said it operated a 24-hour Cybersecurity/Cybercrime Incident Reporting Point of Contact (PoC) for reporting cybercrimes and seeking guidance and assistance on online activities.
