Accra, Sept. 16, GNA – Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, Founder of Lighthouse Chapel International (LCI), has paid tribute to veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Bernice Offei, who died on Saturday, September 12, at age 63.
In a video sighted by the Ghana News Agency, Bishop Heward-Mills described the late musician as a personal friend during their days at Achimota School, adding that they also lived in the same neighbourhood.
He recalled that Bernice sang at Achimota School in the 1970s.
Before Bishop Heward-Mills delivered his sermon last Sunday, a singer at the church ministered one of Bernice Offei’s songs in her honour.
Bishop Heward-Mills urged the congregation to listen to the words of her songs and allow them to minister to their lives.
He said although the gospel musician had passed away, her songs and legacy would continue to live on.
Bernice Offei, whose classic songs include “Hold On” and “Life is Short”, had about six albums and more than 40 songs to her credit.
She built a strong reputation over the years as a singer, songwriter and minister whose music transcended generations.
Some of her popular songs are “Kaa She Gbeyei”, “It’s By Grace”, “Nyame Kokroko” and “N’adom Ara Kwa”.
In 2009, she won the Best Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards.
