Ho, Sep 29, GNA-Togbe Agbesi Awusu II, Awadada of Anlo, has charged the youth of Anlo to become proactive partners in the area’s development since they were not just the future but its present.
He outlined three priority areas for the youth to take seriously to support the development of the area and mentioned among others environmental advocacy to protect the coastline, laggons and the ecological heritage.
The Awadada who was speaking at the inauguration of the Executive Council of Anlo Youth Council (AYC) therefore called on the youth to acquire knowledge adding that knowledge was requred to build a stronger Anlo.
Mr Godsway K. Hanyabui, the AYC President in his inaugural address described the theme for the 2026 conference, “A New chapter, a New Vision, a Stronger Anlo” as both deliberate and prophetic, to provoke the thoughts and prick the conscience of every Anlo.
“It is one thing to know that casting a net into the sea or lagoon, or planting a seed in the soil, will yield a certain outcome; it is another thing entirely to act on that knowledge. No results will be achieved if the one who possesses such knowledge fails to put it to practical use.” he noted
He said Anlo had huge potential blessed with a rich culture, resilient people, a vast coastline, hardworking fisherfolk, farmers, entrepreneurs and brilliant, creative young people that could advance the development of the area.
Mr Hanyabui outlined four pillars to anchor his administration: leadership, accountability, unity and said the Council would focus on mentoring selfless youth leaders, ensuring transparent management of resources, and fostering unity across all Anlo communities.
“Whether you are from Woe, Anloga, Aflao, Dzita, Atiteti, Klikor, Keta, Denu, Dzodze or any part of Anlo, we are one blood, one drumbeat, one Hogbetsotso story so let no politics, chieftaincy dispute or social media argument divide us again,” he emphasized.
The AYC President announced plans to map all youth associations within Anlo and in the diaspora to create an Anlo youth database and collaborative network to drive development in fisheries, agriculture, education, entrepreneurship, sports, environmental protection and cultural preservation.
He appealed to the Anlo Dukor Council, through the AYC’s Patron, Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, Awadada of Anlo to institute research into stool histories and review chieftaincy selection and installation processes to address protracted disputes.
Mr Hanyabui also called for a review of the Chieftaincy Act, Act 759, to properly reflect the Anlo traditional governance system.
Ms Sandra Seyram Kpedor, District Chief Executive of Anloga on behalf of Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, assured of his office’s readiness to partner with the AYC to drive Anlo and the larger Volta Region’s development agenda.
Mr Kenneth Edzordzinam Kpedor, the outgoing AYC President pledged his full support to the new leadership, describing the transition as a continuation of a torch lit about two decades ago and assuring the new executives of his mentorship and availability to ensure “the Council’s vision for a stronger Anlo is realized.”
The event was hosted by Togbi Samlafo IV, Fiaga of Atsiame, and attended by chiefs, queens, and youth from across Anlo.
