Ho (V/R), Sept. 29, GNA – Madam Sena Setordzi, an aspirant for the Vice-Chairperson position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ho Central Constituency, has called on women to participate in decision-making and leadership within the party.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Setordzi said she had decided to contest what she described as a male-dominated position because, according to her, no woman had previously contested the position in the constituency.
She said her aspiration was intended to demonstrate that women could actively participate in party leadership and contribute to decision making affecting the party and the wider community.
She noted that when given the opportunity, she would use the position to advocate issues affecting women and create space for more women to participate in the political process and have their concerns heard.
She also identified the welfare of the elderly and the development of the younger generation in the Ho Central Constituency as areas of interest to her.
According to her, the elderly had contributed significantly to the development of their communities and deserved attention, while the youth needed opportunities and support to contribute meaningfully to the future of the constituency.
Madam Setordzi said her vision was therefore to work with the constituency leadership and other stakeholders to promote initiatives that would benefit both the elderly and the youth.
She also referred to the election of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana’s first female Vice President as an indication of the increasing participation of women in high-level leadership.
“This development demonstrates that women could occupy significant leadership positions in the party and at all levels to contribute to national decision-making and nation building.”
While calling for support, she called for peace and unity within the constituency to ensure effective functioning of the party and urged delegates and members to work together irrespective of their individual differences.
Madam Setordzi appealed to delegates to consider her vision and support her bid for the Vice-Chairperson position, saying she was prepared to work with the constituency leadership and members to advance the interests of the party and the people of Ho Central.
