Nkawie (Ash) Sept. 17, GNA – Madam Shirley Tiwaa Kyei, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Nwabiagya South has educational items to support 300 students from the constituency, who are entering senior high schools.
The items, which included trunks, chop boxes, mattress and exercise books, were funded through her share of the MP’s Common Fund at the cost of GHS 400,000.00.
The initiative is part of a program aimed at “investing in our future leaders”, while reducing the financial burden of parents and guardians of the beneficiary students.
Madam Kyei presenting the items at Nkawie, commended the chiefs and people for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work hard for the development of the area, particularly, in the area of education, to justify their decision for making her the first female MP for the constituency.
She said, free education goes beyond payment of fees since feeding, learning and other materials played vital roles in developing knowledge, talents, skills and careers in second cycle institutions.
“Women can also lead exceptionally through these kinds of programs and I am committed to initiate such policies for the benefit of my people” she stated.
Nana Pokua Amoako, the Municipal Director of Education, commended the MP for adding the program to the distribution of mathematical sets to over 700 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates for the past two years, and a scholarship scheme for 50 tertiary students in the constituency, last year.
She urged the parents and guardians to render their maximum efforts to support their wards to help them achieve higher laurels and become useful to their families and communities in future.
She also urged the students to take their studies seriously and make the donation profitable.
Nana Kofi Darko III, Nkawie Kumaa Krontihene, who chaired the function commended the MP for initiating such a program for the first time in the area.
