Accra, Sept. 28, GNA – Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, has announced that excitement is growing across the globe ahead of the Assemblies of God World Congress, in Accra.
He said the event, to be held from October 14 to 16, 2026, would be the first time in the 115-year history of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship that the Congress is coming to Africa.
Rev. Wengam made the remarks at a meeting of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) at the Assemblies of God Headquarters in Accra.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, National Security, the Ghana Health Service and the National Ambulance Service.
Describing the timing of the Congress as divine, Rev. Wengam said the gathering would not only be a significant spiritual event but would also bring substantial economic and reputational benefits to Ghana.
He noted that Assemblies of God was currently the largest Protestant church in the world, with an established presence in every part of the globe.
“The 10,000 delegates from these countries and other numerous tourists who will throng the country will translate into a huge economic dividend,” he said.
Rev. Wengam said the international exposure that Ghana would gain from hosting the Congress should not be underestimated.
“The boost of Ghana’s image internationally cannot be underestimated,” he stated.
He appealed to state institutions, security agencies and volunteers involved in preparations for the event to give off their best and help project a positive image of the country to the thousands of visitors expected to attend.
The General Superintendent also pledged that institutions and individuals who distinguished themselves in the organisation of the Congress would be appropriately honoured.
He expressed confidence that with diligent planning and collective effort, the event would be a resounding success.
“Assemblies of God Ghana will do its best and God will do the rest,” Rev. Wengam said.
Meanwhile, Rev. Andrews Nelson Awintia, Chairman of the LOC, assured stakeholders that the committee was working assiduously to ensure the successful hosting of the global gathering.
“The Committee is leaving no stone unturned to roll out the historic event. At the end of it all, Ghana will be proud,” he declared.
