Accra, Sept. 28, GNA – Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has announced the departure of head coach Eric Tinkler after the South African tactician requested to be released from his contract for personal reasons.
A statement signed by the club’s Board Secretary, A.K. Osei-Owusu, said the Board of Directors had agreed to Tinkler’s request, with the decision taking immediate effect.
According to the statement, both parties held discussions aimed at finding a way to continue the relationship, but ultimately the club respected the coach’s decision to step down.
“The Club maintains that professionalism, unwavering commitment and total focus are crucial to achieve the key performance indices it has set to meet its present objectives,” the statement said.
Kotoko expressed appreciation to Tinkler for his professionalism and commitment during his brief tenure with the Porcupine Warriors and wished him success in his future endeavours.
The club also reaffirmed its commitment to achieving its sporting objectives, noting that the technical team would continue implementing the club’s plans under the leadership of Director of Football Stanley Purl Menzo.
Tinkler’s departure comes at a challenging period for the Kumasi-based side, who sit ninth on the Ghana Premier League table with five points following a 2-0 defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
No announcement has yet been made regarding a permanent replacement for Tinkler.
