Bomigo (V/R), Sept. 18, GNA-Mr Richard Kwame Sefe, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Anloga Constituency, in the Volta Region, has announced that communities such as Amenyokorfe and Bomigo are to benefit from the Government’s Rural Electrification Project.
He said the contractor for the project has been engaged and was on site on September 14, to undertake ground-trothing exercise in the two communities, as an important step towards the commencement of works to extend electricity to the areas.
Mr Sefe indicated that the ground-trothing exercise, which typically involves verifying route alignments and site conditions on the ground, would inform the technical planning and execution of the electrification works in Amenyokorfe and Bomigo.
“This is a significant development, a milestone in the efforts to improve the living conditions of residents in the two communities, the access to electricity will open up opportunities for socio-economic activities that had previously been constrained by the lack of power supply in these communities,” he said.
Mr Sefe explained that the extension of electricity to such communities would support small businesses, improve access to information and communication technology, enhance security, and generally improve the quality of life of residents.
He expressed his sincere appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the government’s continued commitment to extending electricity to rural and underserved communities across the country under the Rural Electrification Project.
He further commended the Minister for Energy for the ministry’s role in facilitating the project, as well as the Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, for the regional coordination extended towards the implementations as well as the various roles played so far for the success of the project.
The MP also acknowledged Madam Seyram Sandra Kpedor, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Anloga, and the support of the Assembly, which have contributed instrumentally and leading to the commencement of the ground-trothing exercise in the two communities.
He particularly thanked the chiefs and people of Amenyokorfe and Bomigo for their cooperation and patience over the years as they awaited the extension of the national electricity grid to their communities.
Mr Sefe reaffirmed his commitment to working with all relevant stakeholders, including the Electricity Company of Ghana, the Ministry of Energy and the District Assembly, to ensure that the project progressed smoothly to completion.
He said his outfit would continue to engage the beneficiary communities and keep them informed as the project advanced from the ground-trothing stage to the actual installation of electricity infrastructure.
Mr Seth Satsi, a resident of the area, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed optimism that the project when completed successfully would translate the long-standing aspirations of the people of Amenyokorfe and Bomigo for electricity into a tangible reality which would also deepen development within the Anloga Constituency.
They thanked the MP for the initiative and appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency prioritise their community roads to ease their transportation crisis.
