Accra, Sept. 26, GNA – The Africa House Legacy Initiative has brought together descendants of renowned Pan-African leaders and families in New York, to celebrate their contributions and reaffirm their responsibility to preserve and advance their legacies.
The event brought together leaders, families and torchbearers of Africa’s history and Diaspora, with a focus on keeping alive the stories, values and contributions of legendary Africans whose work shaped the continent and its global identity.
In a release issued to the Ghana News Agency, in Accra, it said, among the distinguished descendants were Madam Samia Nkrumah and Mr Thomas Kwame Malega, daughter and grandson, respectively, of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and a leading Pan-African visionary.
Also present was Mr Jeffery Allan Peck, the great-grandson of Dr W.E.B. Du Bois, the renowned scholar, civil rights activist and Pan-Africanist.
They were joined by other descendants and representatives of legendary Africans, including the family of Nigerian musician and activist Fela Kuti, as well as families from the African Diaspora.
The statement said the gathering provided an opportunity for the descendants to share their experiences and reflect on the responsibility of carrying forward the values and ideals associated with their forebears.
Dr Erieka Bennett, the Founder and Head of Mission, Diaspora African Forum, commended the Africa House Legacy Initiative for creating a platform dedicated to preserving the memory of Africa’s historical figures and promoting intergenerational dialogue.
She said the initiative was important in ensuring that the courage, unity and spirit of service demonstrated by the continent’s iconic figures continued to inspire present and future generations.
Dr Bennett reaffirmed the commitment to working with families and institutions to ensure that the legacies of Africa’s icons were not merely remembered but actively carried forward.
“It also underscores the importance of engaging younger generations in understanding Africa’s history and the contributions of its leaders, intellectuals, activists and cultural figures,” she said.
The Africa House Legacy Initiative seeks to provide a space where the stories of Africa’s legends and their descendants can be preserved, shared and connected to contemporary efforts to advance the continent and its Diaspora.
