Have (V/R), Aug. 4, GNA – Professor Frank Daniel Konku, a native of Have and lecturer in the United States, has donated laboratory furniture worth nearly GHS20,000 to Have E.P. Basic Schools A and B in the Afadzato South District to enhance science, technology and practical learning.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at a brief ceremony to hand over the items, Prof. Konku said the donation was in response to an appeal from the school to furnish its BSTEM laboratory and improve teaching and learning.
The items included six laboratory tables, 60 laboratory chairs, and a facilitator table and chair, providing essential furniture for practical lessons and creating a conducive environment for learners and teachers.
Prof. Konku, a philanthropist and former resident of Have, urged the school community to take ownership of the items and maintain them properly to ensure their durability.
“I urge the learners and teachers to take good care of these items and treat them as their own so that they can serve the school for a long time,” he said.
He said supporting education was a shared responsibility and expressed the hope that the intervention would improve the quality of practical education and encourage learners to develop greater interest in science and technology.
Mr Johannes Ekpe-Asrevi, Headteacher of Have E.P. Basic School, expressed appreciation to Prof. Konku, describing the donation as the fulfilment of one of the school’s longstanding needs.
“God has answered one of our prayers. We are very grateful for this timely intervention, which will go a long way to support teaching and learning in the school,” he said.
He appealed to other citizens of Have, old students, organisations and well-wishers to emulate Prof. Konku’s gesture by supporting the school with infrastructure, teaching and learning materials and other resources needed to improve educational outcomes.
The headteacher said the development of the BSTEM laboratory would provide learners with opportunities to acquire practical skills and apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations, particularly in science and technology-related fields.
The ceremony was attended by the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO), Parent-Teacher Association and School Management Committee executives, chiefs and elders, the Local Manager, facilitators and learners, who witnessed the presentation and expressed support for continued community involvement in the development of the school.
