Cape Coast, Aug. 4, GNA – The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has launched its flagship E-Campus project, a virtual platform designed to expand access to quality higher education through a robust, fully digital ecosystem.
The launch follows the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with AstriaLearning, a United States-based global education technology firm, in March this year, and the successful accreditation of the project by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The E-Campus offers flexible learning opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate and working professionals, enabling them to pursue UCC programmes exclusively online from anywhere in the world.
The University has also secured approval to offer about 36 new Master’s, PhD and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programmes, in addition to some existing programmes, through the platform.
The new programmes include MSc Cyber Security, MBA Sustainability and Governance Management, Doctor of Business Administration in Artificial Intelligence, Doctor of Business Administration in Cyber Security and Information Assurance, Doctor of Business Administration in Financial Analysis and Management, and PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation.
Applications have opened, with the first cohort of students expected to enrol in October 2026.
Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto, Vice-Chancellor of UCC, clarified that the E-Campus, the first of its kind in Ghana and West Africa, would complement rather than replace the University’s existing modes of programme delivery.
Instead, he said, it provided an additional pathway to broaden access to quality higher education for working professionals and other learners.
“Our regular sandwich and distance education programmes will continue to operate as before,” he assured.
Prof. Aheto said the initiative would usher the University into a new era of digital innovation, broaden access to quality education and consolidate UCC’s position as a leader in higher education in Africa.
“The AstriaLearning platform will enhance UCC’s global visibility, expand international student recruitment, strengthen operational efficiency and enable scalable growth of our academic programmes across the world,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that under the agreement, AstriaLearning would provide infrastructure, enrolment systems, digital learning architecture and operational expertise to support programme delivery.
He stressed, however, that academic authority would remain fully vested in UCC to safeguard its standards, values and traditions.
“In every respect, this partnership represents a strategically sound and forward-looking opportunity for the University of Cape Coast,” he said.
He urged all stakeholders to nurture the collaboration with integrity, foresight and dedication, and thanked them for their commitment to the project.
Dr Jeff Bordes, Chief Executive Officer of AstriaLearning, described the platform as a driver of technology-enabled transformation, institutional growth and academic excellence.
He said its flexibility would enable working professionals to pursue postgraduate education without sacrificing their jobs, income, family responsibilities or relocating.
Dr Bordes assured that E-Campus students would receive the same academic quality as their on-campus counterparts, with programmes designed to equip learners with practical, globally competitive skills.
“It’s not about creating an academic credential to give you one more title on your wall, but it’s to empower people with pragmatic skills to compete in an ever-evolving world,” he said.
Describing education as central to national development, he encouraged prospective students to enrol, saying the platform would unlock opportunities for talented individuals who might otherwise be excluded from higher education.
On affordability, he said flexible monthly tuition payment plans had been introduced to accommodate different financial circumstances.
Beyond UCC’s reputation, Dr Bordes commended the dedication, responsiveness and professionalism of the University’s team in delivering the project within a record time.
“That’s why we thought, as AstriaLearning, it’s a privilege to choose the UCC brand. Not because the brand is strong, but the people behind the brand are even stronger,” he said.
Launching the project, Justice William Atuguba, Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, said the world had become a global village driven by rapid digital transformation and rising standards.
He noted that it was no longer tenable to continue operating with traditional approaches.
“We will be left behind,” he said, describing the project as timely and highly commendable.
Justice Atuguba congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on the successful implementation of the initiative and expressed optimism about its prospects for the University and higher education in Ghana.
