Tema, Aug. 16, GNA -The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), in collaboration with the Tema East Member of Parliament, Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, has supported the Tema Traditional Council with food items, beverages and financial assistance towards this year’s Homowo Festival.
The donation, led by Madam Ebi Bright, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), and Mr Odamtten, was intended to support the traditional council in preparations for the annual festival and strengthen collaboration between local government authorities and traditional leadership.
The items included bags of maize and palm nuts, fresh fish, crates of beer, bottled water, canned minerals, cartons of alcoholic beverages, and cash.
Madam Bright expressed appreciation to the Tema Traditional Council and community leadership for their support for the assembly’s sanitation and clean-up initiatives across the metropolis.
She said maintaining a clean and healthy Tema required sustained collaboration among the assembly, traditional authorities, security agencies, and residents.
The MCE also appealed to the traditional authorities to continue working closely with the assembly to promote development and maintain peace and unity in the metropolis.
Mr Odamtten said the support formed part of efforts to strengthen the existing partnership between government and traditional authorities to promote sustainable development within the Tema area.
He urged the traditional council to continue collaborating with government and other stakeholders to address challenges affecting communities.
Nii Adjetey Agbo II, Mankralo of Tema and Acting President of the Tema Traditional Council, who received the items on behalf of the council, expressed appreciation to the TMA and the Member of Parliament for the gesture.
Nii Agbo used the occasion to appeal to parents to take greater responsibility for their children’s education as part of efforts to address teenage pregnancy in Ga communities.
He urged parents to ensure that their children attended school regularly and completed their education, while creating supportive and safe home environments to protect them from social vulnerabilities.
Nii Amarh Somponu II, Tema Shippi and Stool Secretary, also appealed to the government to prioritise job creation and skills development for young people in Ga communities to address unemployment and poverty.
He said creating sustainable economic opportunities for the youth would help improve livelihoods and contribute to the development of the communities.
The traditional leaders expressed the hope that the continued collaboration between the assembly, Parliament, and traditional authorities would contribute to peaceful celebrations and sustainable development in Tema.
