Asokore (E/R), Aug. 5, GNA – Pastor Colonel (Rtd) Peter Nyarko Duodu, the President of South East Ghana Union Mission (SEGUM) of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, has commissioned two new dormitory blocks for SDA College of Education at Asokore, in the Eastern Region to help address the school’s infrastructure deficits.
The facilities named Rose Owusu – Kakra and Charles Kuma -Korante Halls are expected to ease congestion in the boarding system, improve accommodation for students, and enhance hygiene.
It also includes modern washrooms to improve convenience and living conditions.
The commissioning ceremony brought together key personalities, including academia, SEGUM Executives, governing council of the school, church leaders, students, teaching, and non-teaching staff.
Addressing the gathering, Pastor Col. (Rtd) Duodu commended the principal’s proactive management of internally generated funds for facility maintenance.
He urged the students to take personal responsibility for preserving these assets to prevent damage, while acknowledging the college’s state-of-the-art infrastructure,
“A portion of the SEGUM budget will be allocated toward education and to support the college,” the SEGUM President added.
He said education was the foundation of national development, calling for collective resource mobilization and unity.
He stressed that, the goal was to upgrade the school’s status to a national pride and foster an environment where citizens could drive Ghana’s progress through learning.
Professor Vincent Adzahlie-Mensah, the Principal of the College, outlined the strategic vision for the college, focusing on infrastructure expansion of residential halls to improve student living conditions.
He said key historical figures, including Mr. Charles Kuma Korante and Madam Rose Owusu Kakra, were honoured through the building and hall naming to recognize their leadership and contributions.
“The institution is focused on academic excellence, moral discipline, and proactive facility maintenance through regular monitoring and student engagement,” the Principal added.
He stressed that future growth included government-funded projects like a new male hall and auditorium, alongside internally funded capital projects targeted for completion by 2027, to ensure long-term institutional development and judicious use of resources.
The SDA College of Education started as the Seventh-day Adventist Training College at Asokore near Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana, with the original name, according to the Adventist Yearbook, been Koforidua Day-Teacher Training College, which became a boarding institution.
It was established on October 26, 1962, on an area of 135.9 hectors of land, where the College began with 120 students, and since its inception, has run several programs.
