Agomanya (E/R), Aug. 2, GNA – St Martin de Porres Hospital has launched a natural mineral sachet water venture to diversify its operations, support healthcare delivery, create jobs and improve access to safe drinking water in its catchment area.
The hospital, located at Agomanya in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, launched its own brand of natural mineral sachet water as part of efforts to provide safe, affordable and hygienically packaged drinking water to the public.
The product, known as Saint Martin’s Natural Mineral Water, was unveiled at a ceremony attended by hospital management, staff, health professionals and other stakeholders.
The initiative forms part of the hospital’s strategy to diversify its operations while contributing to the availability of quality drinking water for residents of Agomanya and surrounding communities.
Speaking at the launch, Ms Grace Nettey, Deputy Hospital Administrator of St Martin de Porres Hospital, said the project was conceived two years ago after management reviewed the amount spent on purchasing sachet water for staff.
She said the hospital realised that resources used to purchase water for staff could instead be invested in establishing its own production facility to support healthcare delivery and generate additional revenue.
“Personally, we buy water for our staff, and when we looked at the amount of money spent on purchasing water as part of staff motivation, we realised that the same resources could be channelled back into the system to help improve healthcare services,” she said.
“That is why management decided to establish a natural mineral water factory so that while we produce and provide safe drinking water to our clients, it will also serve as a source of employment for the youth within the community,” she added.
Ms Nettey said the venture aligned with the hospital’s vision of becoming a one-stop centre where clients could access quality healthcare and other essential services.
She noted that although the project was not directly linked to healthcare delivery, access to safe drinking water remained critical to public health and the prevention of water-borne diseases.
The Deputy Hospital Administrator expressed confidence that the new brand would compete favourably in the market because of its quality, packaging and compliance with regulatory standards.
“Our expectation is that we will penetrate the market and compete with existing brands,” she said.
Ms Nettey said the hospital’s water source, purification process and production procedures had been certified by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), assuring consumers that the product was safe for consumption.
“Our branding is attractive and the quality of the water is of a high standard, so we believe we will successfully penetrate the market,” she added.
She disclosed that management planned to expand production by introducing bottled mineral water in the future to meet growing consumer demand.
Ms Nettey urged the public to patronise Saint Martin’s Natural Mineral Water, describing it as a trusted product produced under strict hygienic conditions.
She reiterated that access to safe drinking water remained essential to public health and encouraged consumers to patronise properly produced and hygienically packaged water.
