Sefwi-Wiawso (W/N), Aug. 17, GNA – Mr Pious Vincent Abekah, a businessman and philanthropist, has been elected Western North Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Abekah secured 100 votes to defeat his closest contender, Mr McDaniels Kwasi Nyame, who polled 85 votes, while Mrs Martha Kwayie Manu obtained nine votes.
The election was held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Sefwi-Wiawso, with 199 delegates casting their ballots.
The poll was conducted and supervised by Mr Stephen Bertino, Deputy Director of the Electoral Commission in the Western North Region.
The exercise was observed by national and regional executives of the NPP.
Other executives elected were Mr Eric Tandoh as First Vice Chairman and Mr Godfred Adjei Asante as Second Vice Chairman, while Mr Felix Foster Ackah retained his position as Regional Secretary.
Mr Victor Arthur Nkrumah was elected Deputy Regional Secretary, Mr John Amokye as Regional Treasurer, and Mr Gabriel Doh as Regional Organiser.
The other elected officers are Mr Gideon Brenya Agyapong, Youth Organiser; Mr Addo Yaw Harry, who retained his position as Regional Communications Director; Ms Patricia Boakye, Women’s Organiser; and Mr Yunus Abubakar, who went unopposed as Nasara Coordinator.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after his victory, Mr Abekah expressed gratitude to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to prioritise unity within the party and work with all members to strengthen the NPP ahead of the 2028 General Election.
Mr Abekah also commended delegates for their peaceful conduct throughout the election process.
He said the smooth and orderly nature of the election demonstrated the commitment of members to the ideals and progress of the party.
The newly elected Regional Chairman promised to adopt an inclusive leadership style aimed at promoting peace, unity and cohesion within the party.
