King Faisal appoints Niharika Handa as first female Board Chair

Accra, Aug. 17, GNA – King Faisal Football Club has appointed Niharika Handa as its new Board Chair, making her the first woman to lead the Board in the club’s more than four-decade history.

The club said the appointment marked a new chapter focused on inclusive leadership, ambition and renewed commitment to the development of Ghanaian football.

Ms Handa brings more than 30 years of experience in leadership, international business, sports administration and finance to the position.

She is the founder of Gold Crest Refinery and Rika Holdings and has built her career around organisational growth, strategic development and sustainable business development.

In a letter announcing the appointment, Alhaji Karim Grunsah, Founder and President of King Faisal, expressed confidence in Ms Handa’s leadership and vision.

He said her leadership qualities, management experience and commitment to sports development were key factors in her selection to lead the Board.

“Ms Niharika’s exceptional leadership qualities, extensive management background and dedication to sports development were critical factors in making her the right choice to lead the Board,” he said.

Alhaji Grunsah said her leadership was expected to create new opportunities for the club and its players.

Ms Handa said she was honoured to take up the responsibility at an important point in the club’s history.

She said football went beyond sport because it brought people together, created dreams and gave young talents opportunities to achieve their potential.

Ms Handa said she wanted to see King Faisal players recognised not only in Ghana but also on the international stage.

She said the club would place greater emphasis on player development and wellbeing, including quality nutrition, modern training equipment and technology, and improved playing and training conditions.

She said strengthening the players would contribute to strengthening the entire club and called for cooperation among the Board, Management, coaches, players and supporters.

Ms Handa said her appointment should also encourage more women to take up leadership positions in football.

As Board Chair, she would provide strategic oversight of the club’s governance, long-term development, commercial growth and organisational structure, while working with Management and the technical team to strengthen the club on and off the pitch.
