HARARE, Aug. 18 (Xinhua/GNA) – A total of 155,202 Zimbabweans have been repatriated from South Africa, following recent anti-immigrant protests in the country, a cabinet minister said on Tuesday.
According to Acting Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, 42,339 people were assisted to return home by the government while 112,863 returned using their own means.
Additionally, 86,300 Malawian nationals have been assisted to repatriate to their country through Zimbabwe, Mutsvangwa said at a post-cabinet media briefing.
“The nation is informed that efforts to enhance re-integration are continuing, with profiling and documentation of returnees’ skills and qualifications progressing well,” she said, adding that a total of 60,737 returnees have so far been recorded in the skills audit database.
Mutsvangwa added that the government continues to strengthen disease surveillance and foster collaborative efforts with all supporting partners, in order to ensure the smooth repatriation and re-integration of all Zimbabwean nationals returning from South Africa.
