Wa, (UW/R), Aug. 17, GNA – Mr Abdul Aziz Abdul-Rahman, the new Upper West Regional Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to unite all factions within the party to work towards securing victory in the 2028 general election.

He said his immediate priority would be to reconcile all members and supporters who contested the regional executive elections and ensure that the party moved forward as a united force and worked together for the interest of the party.

Mr Abdul-Rahman made the pledge when he addressed the media shortly after he was sworn in alongside other newly elected regional officers in the just-ended Regional Delegates Conference of the NPP.

The Upper West Regional Electoral Commission supervised the election, which was held at the Wa Technical Institute in Wa.

Mr Abdul-Rahman won the election with 173 votes out of 259 valid votes cast to defeat his contender, Mr Alhassan Alaska Kantong, who obtained 86 votes.

The NPP’s new Upper West Regional Chairman said: As the Regional Chairman, I will make sure to bring everyone together so that coming 2028, we can secure victory for the former Vice President, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s Flagbearer.

“That is why when they were counting the results, I told my supporters not to shout in jubilation because this is an internal election and already, we are in opposition, so there is no need for celebration now.”

Mr Abdul-Rahman said though he was happy about his victory, he was not surprised by the outcome because he had been confident of emerging victorious.

He expressed concern about the NPP’s poor performance in the 2024 general election and expressed confidence that the party would win at least five parliamentary seats in the region in the 2028 general election.

Mr Eric Nana Amankwa Ntor, the Upper West Regional Elections Committee Chairperson, who administered the oaths of office to the newly elected regional executives, urged them to work hard to secure victory for the party in the 2028 general election.

The NPP regional delegates conference, held at the weekend, was largely peaceful, despite agitation in the early hours of the voting by some delegates from the Nandom Constituency over the eligibility of some delegates from that constituency.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service were present throughout the exercise to provide security and maintain order.

Mr Majeed Limann polled 193 votes out of 259 valid votes cast to be elected the 1st Regional Vice-Chairperson, while Mr Philip Yaw Braimah secured 166 votes out of 257 valid votes cast to become the 2nd Regional Vice-Chairperson.

Others were Dr. Tanko Daniel Dawda, Regional Secretary; Mr Yussif Alhassan, Assistant Regional Secretary; Mr Alhassan Suleman, Regional Treasurer; Mr Ahmed Nana Sadat, Regional Communications Director; Mr Mohammed Muniru Ali, Regional Nasara Coordinator.

The rest were Mr Mohammed Saana Hamidu, Regional Organiser; Madam Minata Mumuni, Regional Women’s Organiser; and Mr Dodoo Yussif Sadat, Regional Youth Organiser.
