NPP Regional Coms Director aspirant to enhance party visibility, electoral fortunes

By Philip Tengzu

Wa, (UW/R), Aug. 11, GNA – Mr Bukari Ali, aspiring to become the Upper West Regional Director of Communications position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has outlined three key strategies to enhance the party’s visibility and electoral fortunes in the region if elected.

The strategies were decentralising the party’s communication to the grassroots, strengthening the use of social media, and providing regular training and resources to party communicators at the constituency and lower levels.

He observed that effective communication would be critical to rebuilding the party’s presence and connecting with voters at the grassroots.

Mr Ali said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa, ahead of the party’s upcoming regional elections.

The NPP has scheduled to hold its regional election on Saturday, August 15, 2026, to choose leaders who would man the party’s affairs at the regional levels into the 2028 general election.

Mr Ali had served as the Upper West Regional Communications Director from 2016 to 2022 and as the Information Technology (IT) Director for the NPP in the Wa West Constituency in 2016.

With the experience, he indicated that political party communications should not be concentrated at the regional level but decentralised to the constituencies, electoral areas and polling stations since the grassroots were the foundation of the party.

Mr Ali said if elected, he would facilitate the establishment, regular training and resourcing of dedicated communication teams at the constituency levels within the region to enable them to effectively propagate the party’s message within their respective jurisdictions.

He said: “Once these people are resourced, encouraged and trained, and they communicate to the people in the local area, in the markets, at funeral grounds, during service, they will better sell the party at these events.

“Once communication is going to be a key driver in the 2028 election campaign, we are going to decentralise the party, even the presence of the party itself, and that can only be done using effective communication.”

The aspirant also identified social media as another critical area to improve the party’s communication efforts, and said new media was increasingly becoming more influential in political communication.

He indicated that if given the nod, he would lead the party’s communication team in the region to identify young communicators with the requisite skills to effectively use social media platforms to defend and promote the party’s interests.

Mr Ali, therefore, said he would liaise with the regional and national executives, and other experienced communicators within the party across the country to facilitate the training for the communicators.

He said the consistent presence of communicators at the grassroots, coupled with effective messaging, would help the party strengthen its engagement with the electorate.

Mr Ali expressed optimism that the implementation of the proposed measures would help strengthen the NPP’s communication machinery in the region and contribute to improving its electoral performance.
