Koforidua (E/R), Aug. 10, GNA – Koforidua Technical University (KTU) has suspended all Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week activities following the arrest of 10 persons by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) over the alleged sale of cannabis-infused products on campus.
The university authorities said the decision followed a NACOC operation during the celebrations, which resulted in the arrests and triggered separate investigations by the Commission and the university.
Mr Maclean Lovelace-Dodoo, Head of Public Affairs at KTU, said all SRC Week activities had been put on hold pending the outcome of the ongoing investigations.
“The SRC events have been temporarily cancelled pending the determination of investigations that NACOC is carrying out,” he said.
Mr Lovelace-Dodoo said the university would rely on the findings of its internal committee and NACOC’s investigations to determine the next course of action.
He disclosed that management had constituted an independent committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He said the university was also considering psychosocial support for students who might have been affected by the incident.
“So, if there is any programme at all to be carried out, we have regulations. If counselling is required, students will be given the necessary support,” he added.
According to him, seven of the 10 persons arrested had been identified as KTU students.
He said the seven students remained in NACOC custody in Accra while investigations continued.
