Kpone (GAR), Aug. 27, GNA – The Bediako We and Kingmakers of the9 Kpone Traditional Area have outdoored Nene Tettey Mansro II as the new Paramount Chief of Kpone in the Greater Accra Region.

Nene Mansro II, known in private life as Mr. Agoe Tetteh Kwao, was installed in May 2026, following the demise of Nii Tetteh Otu II in April 2026.

At a press conference, as part of activities to formally introduce the new Paramount Chief to the people, Mr James Sutherland Atiapa, the Secretary of the Bediako We, said the installation was done in accordance with custom and usage.

“The Royal Bediako We and the Kingmakers of the Paramount Stool of the Kpone Traditional Area wish to bring to the attention of the people of the Kpone Traditional Area and the general public, including state institutions, that a new Kpone Mantse has been installed in accordance with the custom and usage of the people of Kpone after the demise of the previous Kpone Mantse,” he stated.

Mr. Atiapa explained that the Dortey Stool of Kpone is ascended to by three Clans on a rotational basis – the Bediako We, Kojo We, and Sanshie We.

“The late Kpone Mantse was installed by the Sanshie We and after his demise the mantle fell on the Bediako We to install a chief, after the Clan was duly notified in accordance with custom,” he added.

In his maiden address, Nene Tettey Mansro II urged his people to remain law-abiding and development-oriented.

He pledged to liaise with central and local government and all stakeholders to pursue the development of Kpone.

The Kpone Paramountcy is one of the oldest Ga-Dangme states, dating back to the 16th-17th century when the Kpone people (Ga-Adangbe) settled on the coast after migrating from the area around present-day Benin/Niger Delta through Ningo.

Under the British colonial administration, Kpone was recognised as a Paramount Stool in the early 1900s and listed in the Gazette as one of the Paramountcies in Greater Accra.

The stool comprises eight divisional communities: Kpone, Appolonia, Mlitsakpo, Sebrepor, Kpoi Ete, Saduase, Gbetsile and Bawaleshie.
