Dzodze (V/R), Aug. 12, GNA – Reverend Martin Amenaki, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, has initiated steps towards the restoration of the Dzodze water system, which was damaged during the implementation of the Big Push road project.
Rev. Amenaki held a meeting with the Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), representatives of the Dzodze Water Board, the Ketu North Municipal Assembly and representatives of the chiefs of Dzodze, to deliberate on measures to restore the damaged water infrastructure.
He said the damage to the water system had left residents and surrounding communities without reliable access to potable water, despite several attempts by citizens and the management of the Dzodze Water Board to secure its restoration.
He said several petitions had been submitted to his office, which he subsequently forwarded to the appropriate authorities with covering letters, in an effort to facilitate action on the matter.
Rev. Amenaki said other interventions had also been pursued, but they had not yielded the desired results until recently when a delegation of chiefs from Dzodze appealed to the Volta Regional Minister, leading to the stakeholder meeting.
He said the meeting focused on identifying the extent of the damage, determining the technical requirements for the restoration and establishing the cost involved.
A subcontractor has subsequently been engaged to assess the damaged water infrastructure and prepare a report detailing the work required and the estimated cost of restoring the system.
Rev. Amenaki said the subcontractor had been given between one and two weeks to complete the assessment and submit the report to enable the relevant authorities to take the necessary steps towards the restoration.
He assured residents of Dzodze and surrounding communities that efforts were being made to restore the water system as soon as possible.
“Let me assure the people of Dzodze and the surrounding communities that they should rest assured.
Sooner than later, the Dzodze water system will be restored so that water can flow to their homes,” he said.
Following the meeting, Rev. Amenaki and the stakeholders inspected sections of the road where the water pipelines were damaged to assess the extent of destruction and determine the work and resources required for the restoration.
He said the subcontractor had commenced the assessment and was expected to submit the cost estimate shortly to facilitate the next stage of the restoration process.
The MCE expressed optimism that the collaboration among the Ghana Highway Authority, the Assembly, the Dzodze Water Board and traditional authorities would help resolve the long-standing challenge and restore reliable water supply to the affected communities.
