Kumasi, Aug. 15, GNA – The Institute of Local Government Service (ILGS) has organised a two-day leadership workshop for Assembly Members of the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region.
The workshop, held at the Assembly’s Conference Hall, was aimed at equipping the Assembly Members with leadership, governance and decision-making skills to enhance effective service delivery at the local level.
The training covered key areas, including the Local Government Act; Corporate Governance and Oversight Responsibilities; Deliberative functions of Assembly Members; Meeting Procedures; Decentralisation; the Making and Enforcement of Assembly by-laws; Community Mobilisation; and the Functions of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
Participants were also taken through leadership and change-making processes to enable them to contribute effectively to the development of their respective electoral areas.
In attendance were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Eric Asibey, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Francis Adu Boateng, Assembly Members and officers from the Human Resource Department.
Addressing the participants, Mr Asibey urged them to take full advantage of the training to acquire new knowledge and strengthen their leadership and governance skills.
“Effective leadership at the local level requires continuous learning. This training will help you better represent your people, make informed decisions and drive development in your electoral areas,” he said.


The facilitators, Mr Joseph Owusu, Mrs Rebecca Akalari and Ms Georgina Otu, all from the ILGS, engaged the participants through presentations, group discussions and practical exercises.
The activities were designed to deepen their understanding of local governance and their responsibilities as elected representatives.
The workshop formed part of efforts by the ILGS to build the capacity of local government actors and promote effective, responsive and accountable governance at the municipal level.
