Takoradi, Aug. 03, GNA – The Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission has urged hunters and other wildlife users to stay off all wildlife all wild animals as the August to December closed season takes effect.
The four months hunting restrictions would allow wild animals to breed, reproduce and replenish their populations, while promoting the sustainable management of Ghana’s wildlife resources.
Mr Paa Ekow Quansah, the Western, Central and Western North Regional Manager of the Wildlife Division told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Takoradi, that hunters, bushmeat traders, restaurant and chop bar operators as well as operators of wildlife facilities, must ensure they obtained valid licences and permits for wildlife products before the commencement of the closed season.
Mr Quansah said illegal hunting was a criminal offense attracting penalties and fines.
He expressed concern about the activities of poachers and urged the public to help stop the fast decline of over-hunted wildlife species and protect the natural environment to support healthy forests.
