Amedzofe, Aug. 24, GNA – The Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) College of Education, Amedzofe, has recorded its highest number of First-Class Honours and the highest graduating Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.93 in the history of the institution.
Dr Dickson Tsey, Principal of the College, announced this at the institution’s 18th Congregation, which also marked 80 years of its contribution to teacher education in Ghana.
He said a total of 282 students had successfully satisfied the requirements for the award of the Bachelor of Education in Basic Education degree, comprising 31 First-Class, 177 Second-Class Upper and 74 Second-Class Lower graduates.
Dr Tsey said two of the 31 First-Class graduates were from the first batch of students trained under the Early Grade programme, describing the results as a significant achievement for the College.
“I am happy to report that this is the highest recorded First-Class Honours in the history of the College,” he said, adding that the highest graduating GPA of 3.93 was also unprecedented.
He congratulated the graduands for their perseverance and commitment to their studies, while expressing appreciation to lecturers, staff, parents, the Government and other stakeholders whose support contributed to the achievement.
Dr Tsey said the College had continued to fulfil its academic mandate despite challenges and expressed gratitude to the University of Ghana, Legon, its mentor institution, for providing academic guidance, oversight and support.
He said the College’s staff strength had improved considerably following deliberate efforts by management to address staffing gaps and achieve a better balance between male and female staff to promote diversity and inclusiveness.
Dr Tsey commended the Government for granting the College clearance to recruit additional staff but appealed for further support, saying the current clearance was “just a drop in the ocean” considering the institution’s staffing needs.
He also disclosed that five staff members had successfully completed doctoral programmes and obtained PhDs, while several others were pursuing advanced programmes, workshops, seminars and professional development courses in collaboration with the University of Ghana.
On Artificial Intelligence (AI), Dr Tsey said the technology was already influencing teaching, learning and assessment, making it necessary for teacher education institutions to prepare teachers to use it responsibly, ethically and effectively while preserving the human values at the heart of education.
