Accra, Aug. 04, GNA – His Excellency Cong Song, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, says China’s four major global initiatives offer significant opportunities for Ghana and other African countries to accelerate development, strengthen international cooperation and contribute meaningfully to reforms in global governance.
The Ambassador said the initiatives involving, the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), Global Civilisation Initiative (GCI), and Global Governance Initiative (GGI), were designed to address widening development disparities, security concerns and challenges within the existing international system.
He made the remarks during an engagement with journalists participating in the 2026 Ghana-China Media Fellowship organised by the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) in Accra.
Speaking on development, Mr Cong said the GDI sought to place development at the centre of international cooperation, while supporting the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He explained that the initiative prioritised poverty reduction, food security, industrialisation, digital transformation and climate action, which were areas that aligned closely with the development aspirations of Ghana and the African continent.
Touching on security, the Ambassador said the global security initiative promoted dialogue, consultation and political settlement as the most effective means of resolving conflicts.
He stressed that the initiative supported the principle of African solutions to African problems and encouraged African institutions to take the lead in addressing security challenges confronting the continent.
On cultural cooperation, Mr Cong explained that the GCI encouraged mutual respect among nations and recognised the diversity of cultures and development models across the world.
He said countries should be allowed to pursue development paths suited to their unique historical, cultural and social circumstances rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.
The Ambassador also called for reforms in global governance structures to reflect current economic and political realities, arguing that developing countries, particularly those in Africa, deserved greater representation in decisions relating to peace, trade, finance and development.
He said the initiatives could complement existing frameworks such as the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the UN 2030 Agenda, while creating additional opportunities for development cooperation, knowledge exchange and policy advocacy.
Mr Cong, however, said the success of such cooperation would depend on effective implementation, transparency, environmental sustainability, local value addition, and employment creation.
The Ghana-China Media Fellowship seeks to deepen journalists’ understanding of Ghana-China relations and promote informed, balanced and evidence-based reporting on issues of mutual interest.
