Tamale, Aug. 21, GNA – The body of an unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, has been found in a stream at Kobilmahigu, a suburb of Tamale.

The body was discovered floating in the water at about 1600 hours on Wednesday, August 19, following a heavy downpour in the area.

Mr Seidu Fuseini, Assembly Member for the Kobilmahigu Electoral Area, told the Ghana News Agency that he received a distress call about the incident at about 1630 hours and immediately informed the Ghana Police Service and the Environmental Health Directorate of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly.

He said the body was subsequently retrieved from the stream and conveyed for autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Madam Bashidu Shahadatu, an Environmental Health Officer at the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, who was part of a team that visited the scene, said the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition when officials arrived.

She noted that the presence of a decomposing body in the water could pose environmental and public health risks, especially if contaminants entered the flowing water and spread to other areas.

Madam Shahadatu said the Assembly’s Environmental Health Directorate was taking the necessary measures to minimise any potential public health threat associated with the incident.

She added that health surveillance would be conducted in the community to identify and report any unusual health conditions among residents to the nearest health facility for prompt attention.
