Ho, Aug. 03 GNA – Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, the Paramount Chief of Klefe Traditional Area, has urged young people to be faithful environmental stewards and protect nature against destruction.
He lamented that Ghana’s ongoing struggle with illegal mining, pollution, deforestation and climate change was more than an environmental crisis; it was a fundamental human rights issue.
Togbe Koku Dzaga emphasised that human rights could not exist without environmental justice while speaking as a special guest at the Amnesty International Ghana Youth Camp in Ho, Volta Region.
He called for collective action against illegal activities threatening the ecosystem, emphasising that environmental protection was a vital civic duty.
The Paramount Chief called on everyone to act as environmental stewards by adopting sustainable habits, planting trees, conserving water and minimising waste.
“Our rivers, forests, farmlands and natural resources are gifts entrusted to us by God and inherited from our ancestors. They are not ours to destroy,” he stated.
Mr Stephen Adom, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, challenged the youth to prioritise the development of strong moral character, describing it as the ultimate foundation for sustainable success.
He emphasised that while talent and opportunity could open doors, only deep-rooted character could sustain individuals throughout their life journeys.
The MCE noted that achieving long-term goals required a deliberate focus on personal integrity.
Mr Adom stressed the need for the youth to actively refine their habits and maintain a high level of discipline across all personal and professional undertakings in order to progress in life.
