Dzodze (V/R), Aug. 4, GNA – Reverend Martin Amenaki, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, has assured queenmothers of the Weta Traditional Council of the Assembly’s commitment to addressing key development challenges confronting communities within the traditional area.
The assurance was given when a delegation of queenmothers, led by Mama Ablewor IV, the Paramount Queenmother of the Weta Traditional Council, paid a courtesy call on the MCE at his office, to present a petition outlining the development needs of the area.
Topmost among their requests was the rehabilitation of the Weta Market, which the delegation said lacked adequate trading sheds and basic sanitation facilities, including toilet and urinal blocks.
The queenmothers also appealed for the renovation of the police station at Ehi or the construction of a new facility to improve security in the community, citing increasing incidents of crime.
Other requests included the provision of refuse skip containers, as well as support for road and potable water projects.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mama Ablewor said the absence of a functional police station at Ehi had created a security vacuum, contributing to the rising crime rate in the community.
She explained that although residents had initiated efforts to construct a new police station, the project had stalled because of challenges in securing suitable land.
Rev. Amenaki assured the queenmothers that the Assembly would work closely with traditional authorities and other stakeholders to address the concerns raised.
He urged the community to secure a litigation-free parcel of land to enable the Member of Parliament for Ketu North to support the construction of a new police station.
The MCE added that should the acquisition of land delay the project, the Assembly would consider rehabilitating the existing police station and subsequently petition the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to reopen the facility, to serve Ehi and surrounding communities.
He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to collaborating with traditional authorities to promote sustainable development and improve the living conditions of residents across the Municipality.
The queenmothers expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the MCE’s assurances and pledged their continued support for initiatives aimed at accelerating development in the Weta Traditional Area.
