Accra, Aug. 12, GNA – The Attorney-General has withdrawn a motion seeking to halt the release of Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu, former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).
Ms Hilda Craig, a Principal State Attorney, withdrew the motion when the matter came before the Court of Appeal on Wednesday.
The court was expected to deliver its ruling on the Attorney-General’s motion, but Ms Craig prayed the court to withdraw it.
The court granted the application and struck out the motion as withdrawn.
The GNA has gathered that the Attorney-General intends to re-file the motion at the Supreme Court.
Earlier this year, the Court of Appeal quashed Ms Tamakloe Attionu’s conviction and sentence, holding, among other things, that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
Ms Tamakloe Attionu had been convicted and sentenced in absentia by an Accra High Court for wilfully causing financial loss of GH¢90 million to the State.
She was subsequently extradited to Ghana to serve a 10-year prison sentence.
Following her extradition, Ms Tamakloe Attionu, through her lawyers, applied for bail pending an appeal at the Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal subsequently quashed the High Court’s decision convicting and sentencing her.
Ms Tamakloe Attionu is currently in custody at a prison in Ghana.
