Sege, Aug. 13, GNA — Mr Modjifa Tanihu Jerry John Foreigner Mills-Nkrumah, the Ada West District Chief Executive (DCE), has expressed optimism that the construction of a 24-Hour Economy market at Sege will transform economic activity and create employment opportunities in the district.
Mr Mills-Nkrumah said the project site had been handed over to the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), which subsequently handed it over to Lordia Construction Limited to commence construction after the necessary preparatory works.
The DCE disclosed this at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Fourth Ada West District Assembly, describing the project as one of the most significant developments currently underway in the district under the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy programme.
He said the market would have the potential to redefine economic activity in Ada West by creating opportunities for traders, farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs.
The project, he added, would also generate employment for young people and position Sege as an important commercial centre within the Greater Accra Region.
The DCE expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for considering Ada West as one of the beneficiaries of the programme, stating that “this project has the potential to redefine economic activity within our district,” he said.
Mr Mills-Nkrumah said the assembly was also taking steps to position the district to benefit from future economic opportunities.
He disclosed that development permits had been approved for the construction of a modern 96-room hotel at Anyamam by a Lebanese company.
The hotel, he said, was expected to stimulate tourism, hospitality and local economic activity while creating employment opportunities for residents.
The DCE also reported that the assembly had received 1,500 bags of Urea and NPK fertilisers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support farmers in the district.
He said the intervention would help improve crop productivity, reduce production costs and contribute to food security and income generation for farming communities.
The assembly also discussed challenges, including poor roads, potable water supply, payment of tolls and rates and security concerns.
