Wenchi, (Bono), July 28, GNA – Osagyefo Ampem Annye Amoampong Tabrako II, the Paramount Chief of the Wenchi Traditional Area in the Bono Region has cautioned community members in the area to refrain from littering and dumping refuse indiscriminately.
He said the council had resolved using the Wenchi Palace Court to prosecute sanitation and environmental related offenses and warned that offenders would not be spared.
Osagyefo Tabrako II gave the caution when he interacted with the local media at Wenchi and expressed worry about the worsening sanitation situation in the area.
The chief noted that the media remained key partners in development and explained that his engagement with the practitioners was to seek the support of the media in addressing the poor sanitation challenges in the area.
Osagyefo Tabrako II called for collective support, intensified public education and strict enforcement of environmental laws to change people’s bad attitudes towards the environment.
He said the traditional council was collaborating with the Wenchi Municipal Assembly to establish a sanitation taskforce to enforce sanitation by-laws in the local communities.
Osagyefo Tabrako II also advised the community members to participate in the monthly clean up exercises to improve environmental hygiene and sanitation.
