Accra, July 25, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama will on next week, pay a state visit to the Caribbean island nation of Jamaica.
A statement issued by the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) said ceremonial guns would be fired during the Guard of Honour rehearsals and parade in honour of President Mahama, over the period 29 July to August 3rd, 2026, at King’s House.
It said the firing of ceremonial guns formed part of long-standing military traditions and protocols observed during state visits and official ceremonies involving Heads of State.
It noted that members of the public in and around the Corporate Area, particularly in the vicinity of King’s House and surrounding communities, might hear a series of loud explosions during the ceremony.
The statement said the JDF assured the public that these sounds were associated solely with the ceremonial salute and did not pose any threat to public safety.
It said the state visit of President Mahama formed part of activities commemorating Jamaica’s 64th independence and emancipation celebrations, further strengthening the longstanding diplomatic relations between Jamaica and the Republic of Ghana.
The statement said the Jamaica Defence Force appreciated the understanding and cooperation of the public and regrets any inconvenience that may be caused.
