Accra, July 3, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six persons for allegedly dealing in unregistered pharmaceutical products during an intelligence-led operation at the Airport Roundabout in Kumasi.
The operation, conducted on Monday, June 29, 2026, was carried out by personnel of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team (SOT) from the National Police Headquarters in Accra.
A press release issued by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Command’s Public Affairs Unit, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, identified the suspects as Abdul Karim Ramadan, 20; Wisdom Pakindam Jatuat, 38; Razak Issahaku, 37; Abdul Rahman Yakubu, 45; Iddrisu Mohammed, 26; and Nana Abio Godwin, 27.
It said the suspects were arrested on board a DAF XF truck with registration number AW 5113-21.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 17 fertilizer sacks containing pharmaceutical tablets suspected to be unregistered.
The exhibits comprised 10 sacks of tablets labelled “Dyclosa 50mg” and seven sacks of tablets labelled “Royal Chest and Lungs,” the release said.
The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting the Drug Law Enforcement Unit with investigations.
The recovered pharmaceutical products had been retained as exhibits and will be handed over to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for examination and further investigation to determine their registration status, composition and compliance with the provisions of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851).
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to working closely with the FDA and other relevant stakeholders to combat the illegal sale and distribution of unregistered pharmaceutical products and protect public health.
The Police also encouraged the public to provide credible information on the illegal manufacture, sale or distribution of pharmaceutical products to the nearest police station or through the appropriate emergency channels for the necessary action.
