Dambai (O/R), July 23, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Oti Regional Elections Committee, has disqualified Mr Gbande Nabin Yussif from contesting the position of Regional Youth Organiser, following findings of misconduct, paving the way for Mr Prince Kwadwo Amanor to be declared unopposed.
The decision was announced after the Committee completed the vetting of aspirants seeking to contest in the party’s upcoming Oti Regional Executive Elections.
The Committee said Mr Yussif’s disqualification followed a formal petition containing four allegations of misconduct lodged against him.
In line with the principles of fairness and due process, the Committee said the petition was duly served on the aspirant, while both the petitioner and Mr Yussif were invited to appear before the Committee to present their respective cases.
During the hearing, Mr Yussif admitted three of the four allegations brought against him.
Among the admitted offences was the publication of offensive and unprintable comments directed at the New Patriotic Party’s Presidential Candidate and former Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, under one of the former Vice-President’s official Facebook posts.
The Committee noted that such conduct was inconsistent with the standards of discipline, loyalty and responsibility expected of persons seeking to occupy leadership positions within the party.
It further ruled that the admitted actions constituted a breach of Article 3(4)(1)(a), (b) and (d) of the NPP Constitution, which outlined the obligations of party members to uphold the party’s principles, maintain discipline and refrain from conduct likely to bring the party into disrepute.
Although Mr Yussif expressed remorse during the proceedings and indicated his willingness to render a public apology to Dr Bawumia and the party, the Committee concluded that the nature and gravity of the admitted misconduct made him unsuitable to contest for the office of Regional Youth Organiser.
The Committee, therefore, disqualified him from the race and because of the decision, Mr Prince Kwadwo Amanor, the remaining qualified aspirant for the position, was declared elected unopposed as the party’s Oti Regional Youth Organiser, subject to the party’s electoral processes.
The Oti Regional Elections Committee reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, fair and credible electoral process, stressing that all aspirants were expected to uphold the party’s constitution, discipline and ethical standards.
The Committee urged party members to remain united and conduct themselves in a manner that promotes the image and cohesion of the New Patriotic Party as preparations continue for the regional executive elections.
