No excuse for disobedience: God’s word is everywhere – Bishop Tong

By Rosemary Wayo, GNA

Tamale, July 13, GNA – Reverend Dennis Dabukari Tong, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Tamale has urged Christians to move beyond listening to the word of God to practising scripture in their daily lives.

He said there was no excuse of the ignorance of the word of God because the word was being preached everywhere.

The Bishop made the call in his weekly homily to Parishes in the Diocese in Tamale on Sunday, and noted that the sermon’s theme “Let The Word of God Grow in You”, was a call to obedience and bearing of spiritual fruits.

Reverend Tong said given that the word of God was accessible on radio, television stations, market areas and many random places, Christians must endeavour to act as they heard the word.

He referred to the book of 1 Samuel chapter 15:22 to emphasize that God valued obedience over religious rituals and said “To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.”

He indicated that difficult situations and personal desires often pushed believers to disobey God, and said it usually led to regret.

“That was the situation in which Esau found himself. He knew exactly what he was supposed to do.  He was to discipline himself but he allowed hunger, the desire for food, which made him sell his birthright,” he said referencing Genesis 25:32.

Right Reverend Tong said the Christian calling was to be symbolic of the good soil that heard, understood, and produced a harvest.

He said “But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone, who hears the word and understands it. This is the one, who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

He therefore encouraged members of the congregation to be steadfast in obedience to Christ and service to humanity
