Bodi, July 25, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), with support from the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), has educated Junior High School students in Sefwi-Bodi on the causes, effects and consequences of corruption to strengthen anti-corruption awareness.
Addressing the students, Mr Emmanuel Awotwi, Bodi District Director of the NCCE, said corruption was not only about the giving and taking of bribes but also about accountability and integrity, which were essential for building a resilient democracy.
He said the programme formed part of efforts to deepen anti-corruption education among the youth and nurture a generation of leaders committed to honesty and integrity.
Mr Awotwi urged the students to embrace honesty and civic responsibility from an early age, stressing that the fight against corruption must begin in schools.
“If we fail as Ghanaians to fight corruption today in our schools, we will grow up to fight corruption in our offices and communities,” he said.
He encouraged the students to resist, reject and report acts of corruption in their schools and communities.
The programme was supported by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and the Hewlett Foundation.
