Accra, July 21, GNA – Morocco has become the first country to formally sign an agreement with the Peace Council for Gaza to join the International Stabilization Force, committing military, police, medical and humanitarian support to efforts aimed at restoring stability in the Palestinian territory.
The agreement was signed in Rabat by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Defence Minister Delegate Abdeltif Loudyi and Peace Council for Gaza High Representative Nickolay Mladenov, following instructions from King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee.
Under the agreement, Morocco will deploy senior Royal Armed Forces officers to the force’s command structure and provide police training through the Royal Gendarmerie and the General Directorate of National Security. The Kingdom also plans to establish a military field hospital in Gaza.
Morocco said its participation reflects its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state.
The Kingdom will also support programmes aimed at preventing extremism and promoting coexistence, while continuing its humanitarian assistance to Palestinians.
Officials said the stabilization force would focus on protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian aid, supporting reconstruction and helping build a Palestinian police service capable of maintaining security during a transitional period.
Morocco’s decision builds on its extensive humanitarian response to the Gaza conflict, including the delivery of nearly 280 tonnes of relief supplies and more than $2.2 million in assistance through the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency.
Moroccan authorities said the initiative draws on the country’s peacekeeping experience and aims to support Gaza’s recovery, reconstruction and long-term stability.
