Accra, July 21, GNA – Assemblies of God, Ghana, has paid glowing tribute to the late Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, describing him as a great peacemaker whose leadership strengthened unity and reconciliation in the Dagbon Traditional Area.
In a statement signed by Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, the church expressed its deepest condolences to the people of Dagbon following the King’s passing.
The church noted that it shared a unique historical relationship with Yendi, the traditional capital of Dagbon, where Assemblies of God was established in Ghana in 1931.
According to the statement, the death of the Yaa Naa had caused significant grief among the leadership and membership of the church because of the longstanding bond between the denomination and the Dagbon Kingdom.
“We are somewhat consoled by the fact that Yaa Naa has left indelible imprints on the rocks of time as a great man of peace,” the statement said.
It praised the late King for his transformational leadership, which helped restore unity and strengthen traditional authority in Dagbon after years of conflict.
Assemblies of God observed that although the reign of Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II lasted only seven years, his legacy should be assessed by the impact he made rather than the duration of his rule.
The church said the late King’s contribution to reconciliation and healing in Dagbon would remain one of his most enduring achievements.
Citing Romans 13:7, which urges people to give honour to whom honour is due, the statement called on Ghanaians, particularly the people of Dagbon, to honour the memory of the late Yaa Naa by maintaining peace and pursuing the development of the area.
Assemblies of God, Ghana, prayed for the peaceful repose of the King’s soul and urged all stakeholders to uphold the values of unity and progress that he championed during his reign.
