Kyei Noah retains NPP Chairmanship in fiercely contested race in Asante-Akim South

By Yussif Ibrahim, GNA

Juaso (Ash), July 13, GNA – Mr. Kyei Noah has been re-elected constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Asante-Akim South, narrowly fending off a spirited challenge in one of the most closely fought constituency elections in recent memory.

Mr. Noah polled 707 votes to beat his only contender, Alhaji Abdul-Karim Boakye Yiadom, who garnered 695 votes, a margin of just 12 votes that underscored deep divisions within the constituency’s rank and file.

The result, which came after weeks of intense campaigning and lobbying among delegates, saw the incumbent survive what many described as his toughest test since taking office.

Other constituency executives elected alongside Mr. Noah include Mr. Samuel Agyekum Darkwa, as First Vice Chairman, Mr. Stephen Oddoe Kwakye, as Second Vice Chairman, Mr. William Obeng as Secretary, Mr. Albert Afoakwa Jnr as Deputy Secretary and Mr. Albert Bour as Organiser.

Madam Victoria Larbi was elected Treasurer, while Mr. Richard Nana Basoah takes over as Communication Officer.

Madam Beatrice Kyei was elected Women’s Organiser, Mr Benjamin Frimpong, Youth Organiser, and Mr. Jelilu Halidu, Nasara Coordinator.

Speaking after his victory was declared, Mr. Noah struck a conciliatory tone, calling on all party members, including his rival, to close ranks and present a united front ahead of the 2028 polls.

He said the closeness of the contest should not be a source of division but a reminder that every vote and every member mattered to the party’s fortunes.

Mr. Noah stressed that the overriding goal for the NPP in Asante-Akim South, and indeed nationwide, remained unseating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general election, and urged party faithful to channel the energy from the contest into grassroots mobilisation.

The newly elected executives are expected to begin working on strategies to reorganise the constituency and consolidate the party’s base ahead of the next general election.
