KOYA mourns Ya-Na Abukari II, praises legacy of peace, unity

Tamale, July 16, GNA – The Konkomba Youth Association (KOYA) has expressed its deepest condolences to the royal family, chiefs, elders and the people of the Dagbon Kingdom following the passing of Ya-Na Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon Traditional Area.  

The Association said the death of the Overlord of Dagbon was a great loss not only to the kingdom but also to the Northern Region and Ghana as a whole because of his remarkable contribution to peace, unity and development.  

This was contained in a press statement issued by the KOYA, signed by Mr Emmanuel N-yajapoa Onajah, its General Secretary, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale, on Thursday.  

The statement described the late Ya-Na as a visionary traditional ruler, who devoted his life to preserving Dagbon’s rich cultural heritage and promoting harmonious coexistence among his people.  

It said the reign of Ya-Na was marked by wisdom, humility, reconciliation and an unwavering commitment to peace adding his leadership restored dignity and pride to the Dagbon Kingdom.  

The statement said he was a fatherly figure, whose influence extended beyond Dagbon inspiring unity and strengthening relationships among the various ethnic groups in northern Ghana.  

It said KOYA stood in solidarity with the people of Dagbon during the difficult period of mourning, and shared in their grief over the irreplaceable loss.  

It prayed for Allah to grant the Royal Family, the Dagbon Traditional Council and the entire Dagbon Kingdom the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.  

It prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late Ya-Na and expressed the hope that his legacy of peace, unity and reconciliation would continue to inspire future generations.  

The statement urged the people of Dagbon to remain united and preserve the values of harmony and peaceful coexistence championed by the late Ya-Na to sustain the kingdom’s progress and development.
