Dzodze (V/R), July 8, GNA – The Ketu North Municipal Assembly has announced a two-day clean-up exercise scheduled for Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, 2026, following a directive from the Government declaring two days of nationwide general cleaning.
A statement signed by Rev Martin Amenaki, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the exercise would take place across the municipality from 0530 hours to 0930 hours on both days as part of efforts to improve environmental sanitation and prevent flooding during the rainy season.
The statement called on Assembly Members to collaborate with traditional authorities, Unit Committee Members and other community leaders to mobilise residents to participate fully in the exercise.
It reminded residents that operating businesses or opening shops during the period of the clean-up exercise constituted an offence and could attract prosecution under the Assembly’s Bye-laws (2010), the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), and the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as amended.
According to the statement, a monitoring team led by the Municipal Chief Executive would visit selected communities to assess compliance and participate in the exercise.
Residents have been encouraged to bring along appropriate working tools to undertake activities such as desilting choked drains and gutters, clearing weeds and overgrown vegetation, sweeping streets and public spaces, and collecting and properly disposing of refuse.
The Assembly also urged households to observe “Operation Clean Your Frontage and Backyard” by cleaning their immediate surroundings individually or in groups to promote a healthy and safe environment.
The statement appealed to all residents to support the exercise, stressing that maintaining a clean environment was a shared responsibility essential to reducing the risk of flooding and preventing disease outbreaks.
“Together, let us work to keep Ketu North clean, healthy and resilient against flooding,” the statement said.
The Government, under the auspices of the Post-Flood Mitigation Committee, declared Friday, 10 July 2026, and Saturday, 11 July 2026, as National General Cleaning Days in the seven regions affected by the recent floods.
