Keta (V/R), July 1, GNA-Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, the Member of Parliament for the Keta Constituency in the Volta Region, has issued an official statement on the flooding situation affecting parts of the Keta areas, stating that the nationwide flooding and its impact on his constituents was of great concern.
The MP expressed heartfelt sympathies to all families and individuals who have been affected by the floods, acknowledging the pain, loss, and displacement that many residents across the constituency are currently enduring because of the disaster.
Mr Gakpey, assured the constituents that he was working closely with the Government, NADMO, the Keta Municipal Assembly, and other relevant agencies to provide immediate support to all affected persons while pursuing lasting solutions to what he described as a recurring challenge for the constituency.
“Or collaboration with government agencies and the Municipal Assembly is aimed not only at delivering immediate relief to flood victims but also at identifying and implementing structural and long-term measures to address the persistent flooding that continues to threaten lives and livelihoods in the Keta Constituency.”
He urged all residents within the constituency to remain vigilant and to prioritise their personal safety and that of their families, particularly those living in low-lying areas, along the lagoon, and in communities that are most susceptible to rapid inundation during periods of heavy rainfall.
Mr Gakpey called on residents to cooperate fully with emergency response teams deployed to the affected communities and noted that the effectiveness of disaster response efforts depends greatly on the willingness of community members to work together with officials on the ground.
The MP expressed confidence that with unity and resilience, the people of the Keta Constituency would overcome the current challenge, while drawing on the strength and solidarity that he said has historically defined communities along the Keta coastline in the face of adversity.
He reaffirmed his personal commitment to the welfare of his constituents and pledged to continue engaging with all relevant authorities at the local, regional, and national levels to ensure that the needs of flood-affected residents are adequately addressed without unnecessary delay.
“Various flood response activities in the Keta Municipality, such as a comprehensive impact assessment conducted by the Keta Municipal Disaster Management Committee, and ongoing deliberations among coastal district authorities on flood mitigation measures including the possible opening of the Havedzi floodgates.”
The MP urged residents to hold on and remain hopeful and assured the people that he stands firmly with them during this difficult period and that every effort is being made to restore safety, normalcy, and stability to all communities affected by the devastating floods.
