Tehran, July 19 (dpa/GNA) – US forces have attacked a nuclear power plant under construction in south-western Iran, state news agency IRNA reported on Sunday. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) condemned the strike using a number of projectiles at the Darkhoveyn site in Khuzestan Province near the Iraqi border, Iran’s IRNA reported.
Iran announced the start of construction at the plant in late 2022. The planned pressurized water reactor has been designed with a generating capacity of 300 megawatts.
Plans to build the facility near the Karun River were first announced more than 15 years ago. The plant was expected to be completed around 2030. Iran’s only operational nuclear power plant is located in the Gulf port city of Bushehr.
