Ho, July 7, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has recovered the body of a man who drowned after being swept into a flooded drainage channel at Kpando-Gabi in the Kpando Municipality.

The incident occurred on Friday, July 3, following a heavy downpour that caused a drainage channel near the Kpando-Gabi M/A Junior High School to overflow.

A statement issued by the Volta Regional Directorate of the GNFS said the Kpando Fire Station received a distress call reporting that a man had accidentally fallen into the flooded drain.

It said firefighters responded immediately and conducted a search and recovery operation.

According to the statement, the team later retrieved the body of the victim from the flooded channel and handed it over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations and the necessary action.

The Service urged the public to exercise extreme caution during periods of heavy rainfall and avoid crossing flooded drains, streams and other waterways, warning that floodwaters could be swift, unpredictable and potentially fatal.

It also encouraged communities to prioritise safety and promptly report flood-related emergencies to the appropriate authorities.
