France: East Pyrenees fire, 5,000 people evacuated

France, July 5 (Vsn/Adnkronos.GNA) An estimated number of 5000 people are being evacuated, following a fire that broke out in the eastern Pyrenees, in the area of Trevillach, where the flames have already affected over 1,650 hectares in a fire front about 18 kilometers long.

In the face of a “very difficult situation,” the prefect of the Eastern Pyrenees Pierre Regnault de la Mothe ordered the evacuation of the Aspres massif, in the west of Perpignan, affecting about 5,000 people. “All the inhabitants who are in these municipalities of the Aspres massif are being evacuated in an orderly and progressive way, for priorities and geographical areas,” the prefect said at a press conference in Perpignan.
